“Some people think that little girls should be seen and not heard”… in response to which Poly Styrene screamed her infamous “OH BONDAGE UP YOURS!”. This 1977 X-Ray Spex song rapidly turned into a seminal punk anthem and later became vAl’s, a.k.a DJ Radioragazza, motto and mission : share and promote music by women and their allies that stands against patriarchal stereotypes of femininity. vAl has hosted several shows on independent radio stations (Babes in Boyland and RadiOragazza on Radio Clapas and l’Eko des Garrigues in Montpellier, F., as well as OvaryAction in Oslo’s RadiOrakel) and has dealt with feminism and music in diverse collabortive zines (Ken Kills Barbie/Barbie Kills Ken, Shark Bait, OvaryAction, The Laugh of the Stri(p)ped Hyena, To X With Love). She has DJed at LOUD! (Oslo), Ladyfest (Vienna, Brighton, Rotterdam), L’Elixir and Le Psychodrome (Montpellier) and… MIR (of course!) to share her favourite songs or resistance and rebellion, empowerment and emancipation: Revolution grrrl style now!
