Mel Tormé, affectionately known as "the Velvet Fog," was an American musician, singer, composer, arranger, drummer, actor, and author. He is perhaps best remembered for composing the music for The Christmas Song ("Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire") and co-writing the lyrics with Bob Wells. Tormé won two Grammy Awards and received a total of 14 nominations throughout his illustrious career. Frank Sinatra praised him as “the singer and actor whose extraordinary voice elevated popular song into an art,” recognizing his unique ability to blend jazz and pop into timeless classics.
