Luna Horns is a new jazz ensemble from Oslo, consisting of Tim Lowerson (soprano saxophone), Morten Bjørbæk Møller (flute/alto saxophone), Ulf Moen Denneche (trombone), Khalid Laouaam (alto saxophone), and Gard Langerud (bass).
Tim Lowerson, a former member and founder of the famously anarchic Kinetic Brass Collective ( https://www.facebook.com/Kineticbrasscollective ) , had long dreamt of starting a project inspired by the jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim. After the collapse of the Kinetic Brass Collective in 2023, he, along with Morten Bjørbæk Møller,started to look for musicians for the new project. During a jam session at a small bar in Oslo one Sunday evening in April 2023, they discovered the talented trombonist and electronica producer Ulf Moen Denneche. After some evenings at Morten’s crowded apartment, drinking rum, listening to music and interpreting Edith Piaf songs in Turkish, they realised they had found something unique and special and formed Luna Horns.
The band began writing music and playing together every Wednesday in Tim's living room, and their creative collaboration and experimentation led to a musical journey that took them far from Abdullah Ibrahim's jazz world but still retained the soul and passion for innovation and musical exploration.
